Seasick Yet Still Docked

Bonnie posing for MozStickerProject assignment (she IS alive)
I've been struggling for the past few days trying to think what the hell to write about. Here is the situation:
1. Morrissey was too sick to continue his tour-all US dates were cancelled as well as his performance in Mexico City.
2. Morrissey appeared in an interview on a Mexican radio show in which he explained how very disappointed he was and how he was "cautioned" not to perform anymore.
3. He was photographed at an Irish football game with his cousin Robbie Keane.
4. It was announced on True-To-You that Morrissey will be performing in seven Mexican cities in June and in Argentina, Brazil, Peru, and Chile in July.
5. The Hollywood High show is going to be released on DVD.

So, that's Morrissey news for the past few weeks or so. Of course, it was heart-breaking when he had to cancel the rest of the tour. We were so set for Las Vegas, but I think most fans were understanding of the health problem. We would not want Morrissey to do something that would make him feel worse down the road or cause a more serious issue.

And to tell you the truth, I think he felt horribly about it. On his website, he left the following message:

"It takes a lifetime to find the right words, and at the moment I haven't got them. I've been a colossal pain where this continuously unpredictable illness is concerned, and now the physical limits have been reached. The tour had, in fact, been fantastic for all of us-a new slice of life full of concentrated power. The audiences everywhere have given so much, although I know that neither of us will ever receive our due. I hope this isn't the end and I hope there will be other chances minus the heavy burden of illness.Knots of grief today, but full of resolve for tomorrow." Morrissey, March 16, Mexico

Something to look forward to
At this moment, I am happy he is planning to tour again yet sad that its not as likely that I will be able to see him unless one of the cities he plays is Tijuana.

I have lots of things going on in my home life at the moment. Raising two teenagers and a nine year old is a challenge, teaching is a challenge, and I don't have time for any more challenges. Part of my fascination with Morrissey probably is a means of mental escape. But not all of it. And now that I am not planning to see him currently, it forces me to look at these things more closely. And I don't want to, to be truthful.

I suppose a positive to come out of this is that, to me at least, it seems like the Twitterdilly friendships are strengthening through Twitter (duh) and MorrisseysWorldChat. Its a wierd time trying to transition from the news over the month and adjust our minds.

Like many other fans, I find myself keeping occupied by attending Smiths/Morrissey-related events. This I shall do, and write about as it seems fit. (Truely my life IS without Morrissey at the moment!)

On a side note, probably the best thing that I heard at school all week was a student who said, "Ms. Willoughby, I bought my first Smiths album. Its the one with 'There is a Light That Never Goes Out'."

Ah, to fall in love again!

A Dog Named Moz

Introducing Moz the Dog

I met the loneliest dog in the world. He lived in the house behind ours and crooned mournfully at night. I know we live in California and he's a dog. He has a fur coat. But its been cold. Really cold at night and it just broke my heart to hear him and also to see him from my bedroom window wait all day for attention. Even when people were home, he was left out and just starred in the sliding glass window.

An outsider. A crooner. A lonely heart. Moz.

I finally had it with the sadness and decided to do what PETA suggests which is to offer to walk the dog. His family seemed quite happy to let me walk him-I gave the excuse that I miss walking my dog Maddy, who we lost to cancer over a year ago (which is true).

I took him for a long walk along the Santa Ana riverbed. I did the same walk Maddy and I used to do, however, Maddy was a black lab so Moz (who was formerly Toby) got quite a work out since he is much smaller. My thought was that if I tired him out, he would just sleep and not howl at night.

I don't know about Moz (Toby), but I was exhausted after that walk.

When we returned to his home his owner asked me if I wanted him. To be honest, I did not want a dog. Life is simple with a cat and I relished the peace. But I also know that I am a good companion and caretaker to my pets. I did not want to have to listen to him crying or observe his neglect any longer. Yet, I had to discuss this with Roland and the boys, of course.

Miguel was the only one who had an issue. He was attacked by a dog in Mexico four years ago and he tends to avoid dogs no matter the size. But we put forth the argument that this is the best way to get over his fear.

Miguel is kind of afraid of the cat. Its just animals in general mostly.

Well, I need not burden you with the story much longer. Roland is such a star he agreed to try it out. So we picked up Moz after we went out for my birthday breakfast this afternoon-Sunday.

We went for vegetarian food at Mother's Market. It was incredibly yummy and filling.

So far, Moz is doing well. We have him separated from Bonnie, the cat, for now but he seems quite happy.

So much has happened this week regarding the human Morrissey.

1. A number of people in Twitterdilly Arms watched Morrissey and Kristeen Young perform live in Buenos Aires, Argentina via En Vivo (live stream) together.
2. Morrissey made another controversial statement regarding the Falkland Islands, basically saying that they belong to Argentina.
3. One of our Twitterdilly friends was quoted out of context in The Sun after the Falkland Islands statement was made.
4. Morrissey was photographed wearing a T-shirt with the words "Immaculate Conception", which was made on Twitter. Originally, it was a tweet posted by MorrisseysWorld and it was "The immaculate infection becomes the immaculate conception."
5. Kristeen Young (Morrissey's supporting act) tweeted MorrisseysWorld. " Shattering misconceptions takes much longer thn dream & ear drum shattering. Concepts r bastards, esp. when coupled w/"mis"
6. The official Boz Boorer twitter account also tweeted MorrisseysWorld.
7. Boz was dressed in drag and the guys in the band wore sexy bras on stage at their gig in Rosario, Argentina just after stating on twitter that there was going to be a small surprise at the gig.
8. Morrissey once again denied being behind MorrisseysWorld blog (that's four times) and stated that it was "dangerous."

I am sure I am leaving something out. And I am merely listing what has occurred. As ever, if you want details of the above go to either http://www.morrisseysworldismoz.blogspot.com/ or http://followingthemozziah.blogspot.com/.

I do not write as much about the controversy over MorrisseysWorld and the debate about whether or not it really is him as others. This is mostly because I don't know as much about it. I believe it is him but am just enjoying the fun part of looking for "signs." I am enjoying the people I am meeting on this  journey. I don't mind if I never "get there."

I do not profess to know Morrissey well (remember he did not marry me-see my profile) but one of the things I love best about him is that he does not fit the mold. I can't imagine him doing much in an orthodox way. I could not nor would not expect the usual approach to anything.

I wonder if the same can be said about Moz, the dog?

It Was So Lonely on a Limb

Yarmouth Pier IOW Calender

Take Me Anywhere

I have included a photo of my calendar because last night I had a virtual meeting with fellow Twitterdillians (although I just waved, really) at Yarmouth Pier to say good-bye to Mr. Rat's blog, which we really did not need to say good-bye to because he has decided to keep writing the blog anyway. We were told to wear blue roses and light candles. We did.

I then went to my kitchen and noticed our IOW calendar was still on January, so I flipped it over and there before me was Yarmouth Pier. It was kind of odd.

At last count, we have 4,659 followers on @Morrisseysworld. When I say 'we' I just mean those involved in the effort to drum up more followers. Hopefully we get to read those tour diaries soonish.

We felt so lonely without Rat for a whole 24 hours.

Superbowl or Super Sex Education Sunday

Today is the big American football game-the Superbowl. All it means to me is food, beer and  commercials. I have a problem with sports that don't have constant action. American football has so many fits and starts, I just lose interest and I begin to eat more or drink more beer.

Its a drag for Jovanny (15 years old) because Roland and I enrolled him in a sex education class through our church. Its not one of those churches that tells you to abstain and he isn't going to make a virginity pledge or go through some strange ceremony, etc. We are Unitarians and Unitarians are religiously not religious. We are religious enough, I suppose, not to cancel a sex education  class on the day of the Superbowl.

Anyway, its an eight week course. Honestly, I think he'll be able to tell us things we didn't know.

He has complained a lot about it and its one of those things that a parent makes their kids do even though the kids don't really want to do it. It may be lame, it may be dorky but we can only hope that he will learn things we may miss in our little "chats." For us, the "chats" don't happen if someone doesn't ask a question. I'm not embarrassed but I am embarrassed to bring up the subject randomly.

Although Jovanny  has no interest in football either, I feel kind of guilty that while we are watching the game eating corn chips and dip and sipping our drinks, he may be looking at slides, discussing human sexuality, feeling slightly awkward perhaps.

(By the way, he has given me permission to write this as long as I drum up some sympathy for him.)

Clearly I have turned into the parent no one ever wanted to be. I never realized how lonely it would be until I got here.

I wonder if Morrissey's parents had "the chat" with him. I kind of doubt it. I imagine it was a very Catholic approach, which in my own experience, is basically no approach. Everything is bad and will make you die.

Morrissey sex quote:
“I’d like to free the world of sex stereotypes. I am interested in sex and genders. I consider myself a sort of prophet of the fourth sex. The third sex has been tried out, but it failed. I want something different. I’m bored with women and men.”

There are better Moz quotes on the subject but without my copy of Mozopedia I am seemingly at a loss.

Before he left, Jovanny asked if he could get a soda and some snacks at the AMPM shop when they have a break. I gave him five bucks and as happy as Larry, he smiled wistfully and said, "I don't mind now."
